What Happens Before You Get Here?
Before you arrive for your session, you can download our
Health History Form. Your may want to have a snack but not
a large meal or stimulants such as, sugar, or caffeine. An optional
hot bath or shower before and/or after helps to sooth and relax
muscles.
Health and Physical Interview
Before your session begins we will go over any health issues you
may have as well as physical condition, or lifestyle. I will go over
your therapy plan and goals for this session.
Will I Have Clothes on During the Session?
Your session will be in a comfortable and
private environment. I will ask you to undress to your level of
comfort in private and drape yourself with the sheet provided. I
will leave the room while you get ready and on the table. I will
knock before entering. Only the part of your body being worked on
will be undraped at that time. You may leave your undergarments on
or take them off as you prefer your privacy is always honored.
What is a "Full Body" Massage?
Generally the areas of the body included in a full body session are
the upper and lower back, legs, feet and toes, arms, hands and
fingers, shoulders, neck, face including the ears, and scalp. The
chest, abdomen, buttocks are addressed at client request. If there
are any areas you would prefer not to include in your session, be
sure to let me know at any time. The genitals are not touched and
the breast are not touched unless you are there for a specialize
Breast Wellness session which are very helpful when recovering from
surgery and with lymph issues.
What is the Room Like?
You will be in quiet, comfortable room. I will instruct you how to
lie on the table. You will be covered with a sheet and a light
blanket. There are pillows and bolsters to make you as comfortable
as possible. The room is climate controlled and can be altered to
your wishes. There is gentle lighting and soothing music. If you
like you can bring your favorite music or meditation CD to be played
during your session. Please let the me know if we need to make
adjustment for your comfort.
Lotions, Oils and Creams
If you have any allergies to oils or peanuts let me know. I prefer
to use lotions and creams, which are great for
hydrating
the skin and wash right out of your
cloths and my linens. You can always bring your own if you like. I
use products that are
all natural and hypo-allergenic.
What Happens During the Session?
As your session begins, close your eyes and allow yourself to relax
as completely as possible. Deep breathing is one of the best ways to
get the maximum benefits out of your massage. You may want to chat.
Some therapist have rules about this I don't. I will follow your
lead. If you choose to be quiet that is fine. I ask you before we
start to tell me immediately if you are ever uncomfortable with the
anything. I may ask you about pressure Deep Tissue and Neuromuscular
Therapy often require the client give me feedback at times.
I may move you limbs and at times I will ask you to move or flex a
particular area to better treat your issues, otherwise you can
remain completely relaxed like a rag-doll.
During a Deep Tissue and/or NMT session you may experience levels
of discomfort. Areas of strong contraction and sometime Trigger
Points can be exquisitely sensitive. Pain can be communicated in the
sessions with a scale 1-10, 1 being no pain and 10 being unbearable.
The Optimal Therapy Zone (OTZ) is just before you experience strong
pain, your good at 6 or 7.
You may fall asleep during your session. When your body begins to
really relax you may hear you stomach make noise, or have other
bodily functions that are all signs you are deeply relaxed. Feel
free to sleep, I will continue the massage and gently wake you at
the end of your session.
The body holds emotions and memories. These
may surface during the session. You may feel the need to cry, laugh,
feel angry or happy or not. If you notice these things you can talk
about it or express yourself or not, remember anything you say is
keep in confidence. I am not a psychotherapist, but I do have a
compassionate ear. If you have any concerns please let me know. If
you get in touch with something big I can refer you to a therapist.
Can I bring a Friend With Me?
Sure. I can only accommodate one session at a time, but there is
room for a friend in the room and I don't mind a bit. Hopefully I
will expand and have a bigger space for two session in the same
hour.
Silly Questions
There are not silly questions. There are inappropriate questions.
Massage is a therapy an ancient art. Any illicit or sexually
suggestive remarks or advances will result in the immediate termination of your
session. If you are seeking
sex
therapy there are
may good therapists in Atlanta.
After Massage Care
After your session, please drink extra water for the next 24 hours.
This will help to manage the toxins released by the massage. I
recommend Ice on any areas (15 min. on, 5 off, several time after
the session) of tenderness after a Deep Tissue or NMT session. It is
normal to feel quite tender for a few days. People have often
reported feeling very tender for about 2 days and on the 3rd day
they wake up feeling like a new person. You may also want to take an
Epsom Salt hot bath as well to help in the release of toxins. After
a session is a great time to reconnect with nature and go for a walk
or nap and get a truly deep rest.
Does Insurance
Cover Massage Therapy?
If you see the Chiropractor in my office they can check to see if
you are covered. We can give you a receipt and you can file with
your insurance.
